Several months ago we brought a new French Poodle into to our home. Our first dog, Collette, was such a marvelous dog, that we thought to ourselves, "why not get another one just like her." Plus a new dog will be a good companion for her...
Well, you learn one thing pretty quick...dogs are like people...no two are the same.
It took awhile before the two of them could "sit" side-by-side. Rob'ert was interested, but it took Collette some time to "warm up" to this idea. At first, she ignored this new intruder into our house, but over time, she began to accept him. Now their days consist of playing puppy games and sleep.
As far as intelligence, both dogs are very smart...I used to say "Harvard bound." Compared to other dogs I've had, the Poodles are by far the smartest breed. I'll give you one example. Elizabeth hung a bell, so they would learn to "ring it" when they wanted to go outside. Both dogs now ring the bell when they want to go outside, but they also ring the bell just to get our attention...and the bell also gives an indication of their moods. When they are annoyed...they will go up the bell and bang it with a vengeance. Of course we have to laugh at these "doggy" temper tantrums.
But there are differences. Collette learned things quickly, especially "potty training." While Rob'ert does most of his "stuff" outside, we will occasionally find a surprise in our entryway. In a strange way, we think he enjoys getting yelled at for leaving these excrements for Elizabeth and I to clean up. If the grass is too long...he would rather do his job inside. The same is true if its raining...or if there's dew on the grass...etc.
