The only thing we know is that Mary Rita said that her dad got a great deal for the house, and in return for Ben continued to to live in the home.

 
JOE RYAN.   He was a distinguished politician in the early years of Dakota Territory, later South Dakota..  Here are a few references about him.  Politics was different in those days...being democrat or republican was like deciding if you wanted to be a devil or an angel...hey wait a minute...I think its like that  today....
Mathew Ryan -

Step-brother to John B. Ryan (John B. Ryan's mother was Mary Diegnan but his father was Mary's first husband, John Ryan (origin unknown).  This is the only relationship that we can directly demonstrate through family trees.  The other relationships are reflected in news articles, etc.
