ROY RYAN

JOSEPH RYAN

The early Irish referred to the obituary section as the "Irish Funnies."  It is ironic that the 'funnies' was also located on the same page in the Iowa newspapers.  This comic strip adjoined Frank Ryan's obituary.

Margaret Ryan Hess.  She married Henry Hess, the son of John Hess, both men were German immigrants. 

The obituaries noted that they lived in Wayside, Nebraska.  It is now a ghost town a few miles north of Chadron, Nebraska.  They had one daughter, Dorothy.

Frank Ryan, brother to Roy Ryan, .and the 7th child of Dennis and Mary Ann Ryan.  As with James, he never married.  Death October 12, 1936.

SECOND GENERATION HIGHLIGHTS

1. Most of the second generation lived in either Allamakee County, Iowa or the adjoining county in Minnesota, Houston County.
2. While Dennis and Mary Ann Ryan are buried in Union Prairie ownership in Allamakee County, many of their children are buried in the Catholic cemetery outside of New Albin, Iowa.
3. We know that  our family was still in contact with the Iowa Ryans long after Dennis Ryan's death.  According to Jean Blackwell, she noted that her sister-in-law, Josephine Boney Blackwell, used to visit her cousins in Iowa.
