Introduction
The following shows Vital Statistics for McGonigle and Murrin surnames from the Illinois State Records. The index of names shows Marriages from 1763 to 1900. The Death index is divided into two parts. One part shows deaths recorded from 1916 to 1950. According to the State of Illinois this index is complete. The second part shows recorded deaths prior to 1916. At this time these earlier records are incomplete.
The ‘Pre-1916 Illinois Statewide Death Index’ is an ongoing project and data entry still continues. So far 10 of the 102 counties are complete. Boone County has not been added yet. Volunteers from around the world are currently entering data into this death index from their home computers through the Illinois State Archives web site.
These records have been divided according to McGonigle and Murrin surnames. We also included records which are variants of these names. For our ancestor, Francis McGonigle, we have found records which show his name spelled three different ways. In fact, his marriage certificate records his name as ‘McGonnigal’.
Next, the records were sorted by County and then date of death. You will see the entries for Boone County appear first. Our Murrin and McGonigle ancestors lived in Belvidere, which is found inside Boone County, Illinois. We also know Frank McGonigle’s brother lived in Rock Island as this was mentioned in his obituary. Unfortunately, the obituary does not tell us the brother’s first name. Other Illinois counties surrounding Rock Island County include Mercer, Henry and Whiteside. Iowa Counties surrounding Rock Island County include Muscatine, Scott and Clinton. There is one interesting point about Rock Island County. There were a large number of Murrins living in this part of Illinois.
