Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton Smith & Fox Distant Cousin
Researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society made big news recently when they revealed family charts for three Presidential candidates – Barack Obama, Hillary Rodham Clinton, and John McCain. Hillary Rodham Clinton is descended from French Canadians. Hillary is a distant cousin to singers Madonna, Celine Dion and Alanis Morisette. Like the Smith siblings, Hillary is also related to Camilla Parker-Bowles, wife of Prince Charles of England. It has been said that almost all French Canadians are related to each other. After this news was announced, the New England Historic Genealogical Society’s website went down due to an increase in traffic. It took a day before this group was able to fix its problem. Once their site came up I was able to see what all the fuss was about. Sure enough. In looking at Hillary’s genealogy chart I could see how we are related to her. The New England Historic Genealogical Society showed ‘Jean Guyon and Mathurin Robin’ at the top of Hillary’s family chart. Our link is through Elizabeth Couillard’s parents, Guillaume Couillard and Guillemette Hebert. (See the charts below.) Elizabeth was Jean Guyon Jr.’s wife.
The chart below shows how the Smith/Fox family ties into Hillary Rodham Clinton’s family. Elizabeth Couillard’s grandparents were famous early Canadians – Louis Hebert and Marie Rollett. Louis Hebert was the apothecary to a French Queen and later an explorer. He was one of the earliest colonists in the new world. In fact, his wife (Marie Rollett) is considered the first white female colonist north of Mexico City. Both Louis and Marie colonized Quebec long before the first settlers arrived in either Jamestown or Plymouth Rock. The chart below shows our common ancestors, Guillaume Couillard dit Hebert and Guillemette Hebert. Guillaume Couillard was also known as (dit) Hebert, a name taken from his famous father-in-law, Louis Hebert.
This should not be taken as an endorsement for any political candidate. ****************************************** March 2008
