Ansonia Hotel -
The Ansonia Hotel is noted for its Beaux Arts designed
by Paul E.M. Duboy in 1899 to rival the nearby Dakota
building. Most notable are the round corner tower and
the two-story mansard roof. The hotel's thick walls have
attracted musicians such as Stravinsky and Toscanini.

The photo above was taken inside
the lobby of the Ansonia Hotel, which has been converted to
condominiums. We met Millie outside the hotel, and met up
with Don and Kim inside. The apartment was decorated in a
"funky motif" filled with orange glass vases, walls filled with
paintings from local artists, and "period" furniture. The
interior was quite artsy and unusual, but also felt quite
homey..
As we walked the upper west side, Kim talked to a few
"neighbors" walking in the neighborhood, including a neighbor by
the name of John Pankow. After he left, Kim told us that
he was an actor on "Mad About You" (his photo is top-left).
We didn't recognize him because he was wearing a hat.
We had a nice evening at a local Chinese restaurant, and
afterwards made our way back to the Ansonia. It was great
to see the Ryans again...although I was a little nervous about
giving them "poison ivy." A week earlier I was pulling out
poison ivy in my yard, and by the time we met the Ryans, I was
already on my second day of taking steroids. |
