Smith Rock Collection 1964-1970

So what do you remember about dad's coin and stamp collections?

...I remember dad bringing home bags of coins from the bank, and we would be seated at the kitchen table, with a coin book in hand, and appraising the coins for dad...I was probably 10 years old at the time ...maybe.
...I remeber Keith Kuszler looking thru dad's coin collections, and later dad articulated his unhappiness that someone was looking at them unescorted.
...I remember going to coin and stamp dealers to buy coins with dad. I remeber buying 2 cent pieces because "they were cool."
...I remember when you could still get silver dollars from your local bank.
...I remember learning what it meant if the coin was "uncirculated" or very fine...etc.
...I remember when dad brought home jars of coins that one of his clients left in their estate. He was very excited going through these old coins.
...I remember that steel coins were minted during WWII.
...I remember that the holy grail of coins was the 1909 SVD
...I remember the blue coin books were "housed" in the blond bookshelf in the living room.

Dad's Pope Medal Collection

These medals have "little value", although they are quite beautiful. Many years ago Steve tried to sell this collection to coin & stamp dealers, but had no takers. While they were not interested in buying the medals, they did tell Steve that "they were beautiful" medals...just too many sold in the 60s...so therefore, they had no value.

The medals contain images of the following popes: Pius XI, Paul VI, John XXIII, Pius PPX, Benedict XV, Pius X, and Pius XII. among others. There are also medals of Mary, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Dominic and the Immaculate Conception. And the collection also contains non-religious icons as well - Churchill, Montgomery, Einstein, Roosevelt, Wilson and De Gaul. Or as my kids would say, "who?"
