Highlights of William Rooney's Link to the Smyth Family
- Peter Smyth married Catherine Greenan in Monahan.
- Circa 1847, Peter Smyth died (most likely famine related).
- Circa 1848, Catherine moved to Brooklyn, New York from Ireland
- 1850, John, Owen and Bridget Smyth join up with their mother in Brooklyn, NY
- 1859, Catherine Smyth married William Rooney (assume Wisconsin)
- 1896, Catherine Rooney died in February of that year.
- 1897, William Rooney remarried to Annie Mary Huebsch on August 17th.
- 1900, William Rooney died in September. He is not buried with his former wife of 40 years (Catherine).
- 1901, William Rooney probate
- 17 years after his death, Annie Mary Huebsch Rooney is buried with her husband of three years.
As you read through the probate records, there appears to be requests for money that you normally would not have seen at that time. We are guessing that the family and friends did not approve of this new marriage.
In the end, Annie Mary Huebsch was the only beneficiary of the Rooney estate.
